It could be that it's just the small stakes people are playing at, but those who claim to be playing aggressively seem (to me at least) more like they're just playing foolishly. An example of this is as follows - you raise from middle position with pocket jacks (heart and diamond) and get one caller (who's been very aggressive all night).
The flop comes down king of diamonds, king and jack of clubs, so you decide to check. your opponent bets two-thirds of the pot and you flat-call. The turn is a four of clubs. You check and again they bet; This time you raise all-in and they call instantly, showing king four. you cringe until the river is the case jack, then you celebrate.
It's amazing that people will call with things like king four and claim it's loose aggressive play - Is it really? or is it just calling with one high card and getting lucky? You must admit that if you've been playing a lot of online poker, you don't necessarily enjoy it as much as live games - The introduction of webcam technology into online poker rooms is refreshing, but it still doesn't beat the feeling of real cards in your hand or being able to stare down your opponent from a few metres across a table.
You also find that in live games you're much more likely to bluff in situations where online you'd just check-fold. These bluffs aren't always successful, but online you find that they work even less. I've heard others agree that they find that they can bluff more easily in live games, whilst others have said just the opposite. It might just be me, but I'd agree with the first crowd - Others can just as easily make a case the other way though.
Most times when you (semi?) bluff it's into dry boards with no high cards, you'll usually want to have middle pair or better. You often get called and either sucked out on by the turn (some fish with king-jack off-suit or something similar), otherwise your turn bets get raised regardless because your opponent thinks they can get you to fold (because they know you're at a loss as to what they could have).
If you're really that easy to read, or you can't work out what you're doing that's giving people the impression you never have a hand when you bet, perhaps you should just decide to re-re-raise (knowing that you will either get re-raised or else called) because your opponents just don't seem to want to fold their high cards. Could your bets be suggesting that you're weak, or are your opponents just unable to fold most of the time with those types of ace-high hands because they need more practice?
